How developing a modern website will increase conversion rate

Nov 13, 2015

Sales and Conversion RateConversion rate measures the amount of visitors who not only visit the website, but actually convert into paying customers.  The more business you generate through online sales, the higher your conversion rate. Every website offers either a positive or a negative impression to those visiting the site. A well-designed and modern site will attract new users, increase sales, and increase your online presence by offering the latest and greatest methods of design.

Creating a better end-user experience

Modern design is fluid (constantly changing) and it is our responsibility as site developers, to stay current with the new smart technology. A strong visual appeal is always the first thing on the minds of our clients when they are considering new design. However above and beyond the visuals, time must be equally spent on new, modern methods to stay competitive in this ever-changing marketplace. New methodology is also the glue that keeps your customers coming back for more. We suggest a website re-design every two to three years to stay competitive with other peers, and to take advantage of any new methodology available.

Backbone of the website

The site’s navigational system (the menu) is the bones of the site. Developing a great navigational system is crucial and will help with conversions. The precise menu choices should not be too many to avoid confusion, and should be easy to read and understand. The user-friendliness of the site menu will encourage visitors to browse deeper into the website and learn more. A poorly designed navigational system leads to lack of accessibility for the site visitor.

Less is more … keep home page content simple

Website ConversionNever overwhelm users by adding bloated content to the home page. About three hundred words (using bullets) whenever possible is the amount of content we suggest for best results. Bulleted lists are easier to understand and presented factually.  Keep it simple is the best rule of thumb for those site owners looking to increase conversion rates. Don’t be fooled into thinking site visitors will read your carefully written content if it is too long.  Stay away from excessive call-to-action elements and too many links. Keep the widgets to a minimum. Most visitors leave the site within the first thirty (30) seconds of entering the website. This is why the home page content is so important. This content must be written professionally using only the amount of content necessary to provide the major points of interest.

Choosing the right colors creates just the right design effect

  • Do some research to discover what colors work best with your specific service or expertise
  • Different colors do evoke different feelings to different audiences
  • Colors have different meanings in different cultures
  • Contrasting colors help the text to stand out from the background
  • Choose a color palette offering at least three to four colors to offer more visual appeal

Incorporate good SEO Practices

Part of the site development includes SEO methods that work to attract new traffic and to promote site conversion. The site’s architecture and page content throughout the site should focus on good SEO (Search engine optimization) practices. Link back to site pages and add links of interest where they are needed. Encourage the site owner to learn great blogging methods or to hire a professional blogger to increase chances of success.
Enjoy the holiday season. Stay tuned for more next time.
