Developing blog titles and headlines that are clickable:

Jul 20, 2015

Learning to craft catchy and relevant titles is a true art form and you’ll get better with time. As you start the process, remember to use creative and strong phrases that might be used in a Google search. Be unique, be different and be specific. The object is to develop a title or headline that prompts the visitor to “click-through and to read the entire piece. A well-researched blog article (with the right headline) can quickly advance the site SEO and attract search engine bots to list the content in search engine data bases.

The length of the title or headline:

It is suggested that the title or headline be no longer than 65 characters. Less than that is best but do not exceed this amount of characters and spaces are considered in this count.  Creating a longer title will only mean that part of the title will be cut off in search results so please…. keep it short.

Article content should be relevant to the title:

When a visitor is attracted to a blog title, they are clicking through to read more on that topic. The information they find as they click-through, should fulfill every expectation the reader might have.

Does the headline work for your audience?

Creating great headlines

The title or headline must work for your target audience and should be a word string (combination of words) that will be used in common Google searches.  Cut out any extraneous words not needed.  Additional wording can be added in the body of the post article.  Brainstorm with others around you to get a fresh perspective as you are writing the material. We normally spend about an hour or so researching words and sharing our ideas with others here in the office to get feedback, good or bad.  The best bloggers in our industry are still learning and improving their craft.  The end goal is to have the visitor “click” on the title to read your  compelling content.  Content worth reading is worth spending time to get it right.
