If you are a non-technical person and have very little or no budget for web design you will probably be considering one of the FREE website offers from website builders such as Weebly, Squarespace, Wix and others now being advertised. Most are very similar and make their money by charging for hosting or other services which you’ll need going forward.
Unfortunately, in order to keep customers and to grow their user base, many of them make it hard or impossible to move content once it is posted. This stops the customer from exporting information if they are not satisfied with the specific service. You are virtually locked in. For business, ownership is a major factor to consider when you review the pros and cons of a free offer to build your site. Many of these companies do not allow you to own the site and in essence you are simply renting their space and must follow their rules.
These so-called “free” options are ok for hobby websites, and also for a temporary situation. We do not recommend this as a permanent option. A business site needs to be professionally designed by a multi-media designer who understands the functionality needed for success online. SEO friendly source code and professional design methods make the site stand out in the crowd. Many of these options are just too generic, offer only a small range of elements, may not work on mobile devices, and may require additional fees, not mentioned at sign up.
